Colombian household pork consumption is estimated to have increased in 2022 from 12.1 kg to 13 kg per person. Similarly, due to increased consumption, Colombian pork production increased to 526 million tons last year, up 7.2% from the 491,244 tons produced in 2021.

“The results of pork production in 2022 are a record for the sector and make it one of the activities of Colombian agriculture, which has seen significant continuous growth over the past 12 years with an average rate of 7.4. % in profits and 9% in production,” said Geoffrey Fajardo, Executive President of Pork Colombia.

“The results achieved by pig production in recent years are the fruit of the work of Colombian pig farmers and their commitment to guarantee excellent production methods, oriented towards a strategic plan aimed at the environmental, social and economic sustainability of the sector,” said Fajardo.

In a year that ended with inflation of 13.12%, pork remained the animal protein that contributed the least to price increases in 2022, at 14.4% compared to a 16.2% increase, according to the National Administrative Statistics Office. and 20.2%. for chicken and beef, respectively, so Colombian pork is still the best option for households to have access to healthy, quality protein.
