When docking in newborn piglets, thetail , and the wound is cauterized. Immediate cauterization of the vessels prevents the entry of pathogens. As a rule, 2-3 cm are left from the tail. Docking is necessary to prevent cannibalism among pigs, which can be provoked by the presence of long tails during the growing phase.
