MINSK . The State Customs Committee of Belarus (SCC) has investigated the situation with a drunk truck driver at the Lithuanian border crossing point "Medininkai," the SCC press service told BelTA.
Some sources, citing the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service, reported today that Belarusian control services allegedly allowed the drunk truck driver to cross into Lithuania.
A Moldovan citizen born in 1969, he was transporting barley malt from Belarus to Moldova. He entered the Belarusian border crossing point "Kamenny Log" at 11:34 PM on October 1, sober, and successfully passed customs control at 11:54 PM, as well as passport control at 11:55 PM.
"Lithuanian services allowed him into their territory only after a wait of approximately 14 hours. Such a long wait apparently led to the driver's actions (drinking
ALCOHOL – BELTA note). Belarusian services do not check citizens leaving Belarus or the goods they are transporting multiple times, and they bear no responsibility for the actions of drivers during the hours-long wait to exit the Lithuanian border," the State Customs Committee emphasized.
