RUSSIA will respond to possible restrictions on the movement of Russian diplomats within the European Union; the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will formulate the corresponding proposals, said presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov . His words were reported by an RBC correspondent.

"Of course, there will be a reaction. Our diplomatic mission will formulate proposals, and they will be implemented. Overall, we can perhaps only add that, to our regret, the Europeans are actively reviving their habit of erecting new dividing walls," he said.

Earlier, the Financial Times (FT) reported that EU countries agreed to restrict the movement of Russian diplomats within the bloc as part of the 19th sanctions package. The initiative, proposed by the Czech Republic, requires Russian diplomats based in EU capitals to inform other governments of their travel plans before crossing the borders of the host country.

On September 30, Prague banned entry into the Czech Republic for Russian diplomats and holders of service passports who are not accredited directly in the country.

Citing sources, Euractiv previously reported that the 19th EU sanctions package against Russia could include tightening visa rules for Russian citizens, including a complete ban on entry for tourists.

The Russian Foreign Ministry promised to take retaliatory measures against the restrictions imposed on Russian diplomats.
