The share of bulls in Russian animal husbandry is steadily declining, if in the 80s there were 11-12 thousand bulls, now there are hardly more than a thousand, said Irina Donnik, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), at the TatAgroExpo Agricultural Exhibition of Achievements. According to the expert, by 2030 this may lead to the fact that there will be no bulls at all.
Breeding enterprises in the country may be at risk of closure, the expert explained, which means the impossibility of import substitution of breeding material and the need to purchase it from abroad in the form of frozen semen or embryos, where producers can also control the selection and sell only cows, but not future bulls. At the same time, as the expert emphasized, breeds that have shown themselves well in CANADA or Japan are not always suitable for Russian production.
So, according to the expert, the breeding of breeds popular abroad can be hindered by climatic conditions that differ from country to country, a different approach to animal husbandry - housing conditions, feed and other factors affecting the production of MILK and MEAT, and the lack of strong genetic ties between the Russian herd and imported.
