Prices for kosher MEAT in the United States are expected to rise sharply starting this week. One reason for the price increase appears to be rising US livestock prices. According to Feeder Cattle's price chart, the price per pound of cattle meat was only about $125 in 2005 and the same in 2020, as opposed to $248 per pound today.
Springfield Wholesale Meat , the largest kosher meat distributor in the northeastern United States, is raising prices accordingly.
“Unfortunately, Solomon's has informed us of a sharp price increase for domestic beef that will take effect this week,” company management wrote in a message addressed to kosher food retailers.
Solomon's is the largest supplier of kosher products to the US market. The meat price increase took effect on Monday, July 24.
KolHaolam published a list of kosher meat producers with price increases of 39% or more, which affected almost all products. Specifically, Prime Whole Rib increases prices by 79%.
The rapid rise in prices is likely to create problems for both retailers and buyers of kosher meat, notes the specialized publication yeahthatskosher.
