The Foreign Office has decided to impose retaliatory sanctions against members of the UK establishment and "expert" community . A statement about this was published on the Foreign Office website.
"In response to London's continued confrontational course, a decision has been made to include an additional group of representatives from the UK's political establishment and 'expert' community on the Russian 'stop list,'" the statement reads.
The British government's implementation of social obligations to its citizens "is becoming more and more like a 'Trishka's caftan' with each passing month," the Foreign Office website states.
The list of individuals targeted by the ministry included seven individuals. The Foreign Ministry explained that they were engaged in "agitation in support of unlawful unilateral restrictions" and were also involved in "London's subversive activities in the Russian direction," including "fabricating slanderous allegations and spreading disinformation."
The list includes British officials, as well as third-country nationals collaborating with British think tanks and consulting centers, who are now banned from entering Russia. Among them are House of Commons MP David Dougan and Chancellor of the Exchequer Emma Reynolds. Several representatives of the Financial Sanctions Enforcement Office (FSA) of the UK Treasury are also included.
Earlier, on September 19, the UK expanded its sanctions against Russia. These included, among others, entrepreneurs Otar Partskhaladze and Levan Vasadze, the it company Aeza Group, and the helicopter company HeliCo Group. Restrictions were also imposed on the ships Bavly and Karakuz.
The ships were banned from entering British ports, as London deemed them involved in transporting oil or petroleum products of Russian origin from Russia to third countries.
The assets of individuals and companies in the UK are subject to freezing, and they are prohibited from providing certain services. Vasadze and Partskhaladze are also now banned from entering the UK.
London last tightened sanctions against Moscow on September 12. Moscow considers Western sanctions illegal.
