Indicator strips "NS-iron" are designed for semi-quantitative determination of the concentration of dissolved forms of iron. This test is completely ready to use and requires no additional reagents or equipment. A simple test procedure provides a reliable result in 15 seconds. Iron in complex compounds is not detectable. For total iron analysis, sample preparation is required by adding a few drops of concentrated nitric or sulfuric acid to the solution being tested in order to break down the iron complexes.
Both natural and waste waters contain iron, which can be in the form of Fe2+ and Fe3+ ions. In drinking water, high concentrations of iron lead to a brownish color and an unpleasant taste. Maximum allowable concentration of iron in water is 0,3 mg/l according to SanPiN 2.1.4.1175-02 "Hygienic requirements to water quality of non-centralized water supply. Sanitary Protection of Sources".
