September 24, MINSK . The Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus (FPB) will strengthen measures to prevent industrial injuries in the workplace. This was discussed today at a meeting of the FPB Council Presidium, the federation's press service told BelTA.

"The work of the technical labor inspectorate shows that one of the main causes of worker injuries is the human factor. Most common are cases of personal carelessness, as well as disregard for occupational safety standards. These include, for example, failure to use personal protective equipment and special clothing, failure to wear safety equipment, and failure to repair equipment with the engine running. There are also cases of violations of labor discipline and being intoxicated at work," the press service noted.

Overall, in the first half of this year, technical labor inspectors conducted more than 4,200 inspections and monitoring of compliance with occupational safety legislation at organizations and enterprises. Over 29,000 violations were identified. "Despite the extensive preventative work carried out by trade unions, including in collaboration with social partners, occupational injuries remain a pressing issue in virtually all industries. Based on our experience, we see a need to strengthen outreach efforts within workforces and directly address real-life cases and nuances of occupational safety regulations at the workplace," said Anna Varfolomeeva, FPB Secretary for International Work. Employer

consultations will also continue . In the first half of 2025 alone, the Technical Labor Inspectorate organized and participated in over 1,000 seminars, lectures, and other events aimed at training and disseminating knowledge on compliance with occupational safety legislation. The FPB also reminded that occupational safety violations, inadequate working conditions, or disputes with employers can be reported to the Federation's Intersectoral Monitoring Center.
