We continue filming sheep farming in Kazakhstan. This episode features several breeds: Edilbaevskaya, Akkarabas, Texel, Suffolk, Dorper, as well as crosses and hybrids. We show the selection of stud rams for mating, weighing, and discuss the productivity of each breed.
The Edilbaevskaya breed once again proves its superiority: some rams reach 150–160 kg even when kept on pasture. These sheep are unpretentious, climate-resistant, and generate stable profits. Experts emphasize that the Edilbaevskaya breed is the one thatSheep remain the main working breed for Kazakhstan.
Suffolk lambs are known for their early maturity, high fertility, and marbled meat. Rams of this breed reach 120 kg, and their meat is prized for its tenderness and flavor. Dorpers, a meat breed of South African origin, exhibit good weight gain and a firm frame. The farm maintains a breeding stock of purebred Dorpers, which allows it to produce purebred lambs for breeding.
Special attention is given to crossbreeding. The video shows crosses of the Kazakh Fine-Wool breed with Suffolk rams and other meat breeds. The characteristics passed on to the offspring and how this impacts the farm's economics are discussed.
Among Kazakh breeds, besides the Edilbaev breed, the Akkarabas and Kazakh Coarse-Wool are also mentioned. The Akkarabas is noted to be a fat-tailed, coarse-wool breed of sheep, the wool of which is used to make white felt for yurts. Moreover, the Akkarabas also has excellent meat qualities, and preserving this breed is important not only for production but also for its cultural heritage.
