Photo by the Brest Regional Executive Committee Department of Internal Affairs, October 1, MINSK . A pedestrian was hit by a car in Brest; it was determined that the woman was intoxicated, the Brest Regional Executive Committee Department of Internal Affairs told BelTA. 

"According to preliminary information, on September 30, at about 7:35 p.m., in Brest, a 59-year-old Volkswagen driver, leaving a courtyard area on Polevoy Street, hit a 63-year-old local resident while turning left, who was crossing the roadway at an unregulated pedestrian crossing. It was determined that the pedestrian was intoxicated," the department reported. 

Following the accident, the woman was released home after receiving medical assistance. An investigation is underway.

The police report that when approaching a pedestrian crossing, it is necessary to slow down to give way to pedestrians, up to and including stopping the vehicle completely. It is important to remember thatALCOHOL significantly impairs reaction time and the ability to adequately assess road conditions. Intoxicated pedestrians put themselves and other road users at enormous risk.
