COURT issued a verdict in a criminal case regarding a traffic violation committed by a person driving a vehicle while intoxicated.
A pedestrian was found guilty of driving while intoxicated , resulting in his death through negligence . This was reported to BELTA by the Gomel Regional Court.
The defendant was charged under Part 4 of Article 317 of the Criminal Code. "In early summer,
a drunk driver in a Mercedes-Benz E220 in the village of Pesochnaya Buda, Gomel District, drove off the roadway and struck a pedestrian, born in 1939, who was sitting on the side of the road. As a result of the accident, the pedestrian sustained bodily injuries from which he died," the regional court reported.
At the trial, the driver fully admitted his guilt and expressed sincere remorse. The court found the defendant guilty of the act with which he was charged. Based on Part 4 of Article 317 of the Criminal Code, he was sentenced to four years' imprisonment in a general-regime penal colony with the deprivation of the right to engage in activities related to the operation of all types of vehicles for eight years. He will also undergo mandatory
treatment for chronic
ALCOHOLISM at the place of serving his sentence. The defendant was ordered to pay the victims Br70,000 in compensation for moral damages. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force and may be appealed or challenged.
