Vasilina Gritsyuk recalled that the deposit of vaccine strains is a mandatory requirement of the law on biosafety (No. 492-FZ).
In order to transfer the strain to the Russian state collection, it is necessary to submit an application and conclude a contract for research. “The cost of these studies ranges from 100 to 200 thousand rubles, depending on which strain is used and what research is being carried out,” she said.
Next, the manufacturer needs to obtain permission from VGNKI to import this strain. After obtaining such a permit, the strain is examined and entered for guaranteed storage for a period of up to five years.
“The first five foreign strains have already been deposited. These strains were donated to the Russian collection by the Spanish company Laboratorios Hipra, SA,” added Vasilina Gritsyuk.
The deputy DIRECTOR of the institution noted that the requirement to deposit vaccine strains applies to both foreign and domestic vaccine manufacturers.
“Domestic producers who have purchased strains from VGNKI over the past five years can apply to the institution and receive a certificate. If they haven’t purchased within five years, they must also submit an application and conduct research,” Vasylina Gritsyuk added.
