The spring sowing campaign took place in difficult weather conditions. Despite this, the task set by the Federal Minister to fulfill the structure of sown areas agreed with the Ministry of Agriculture of RUSSIA has been completed, - says Roman Kovalsky, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Saratov Region - Minister of Agriculture of the Region.
Spring sowing in the Saratov region was carried out on an area of more than 2.8 million hectares, the planned indicators for sowing spring crops were met in 23 districts. This year, the sown areas under durum wheat increased by 18% (71 thousand hectares), soybeans by 28% (36 thousand hectares), potatoes in the organized sector by 4% (709 hectares).
Speaking about the results of the 2022 sowing campaign, Roman Kovalsky emphasized that “taking into account the priorities outlined by the Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Dmitry Patrushev, as well as in the framework of preparing the region for the implementation of a new Federal project to stimulate an increase in the production of potatoes and vegetables, the regional Ministry of Agriculture carried out work with vegetable growing farms to optimize the structure of sown areas under vegetable crops.
The sown areas under onions increased by 3% (1.88 thousand hectares), cabbage - by 21% (630 hectares) and table beet - by 10% (116 thousand hectares). The sown area under carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes remains at the level of 2021.
Largely due to the commissioned irrigated areas, despite the drought and extreme temperature conditions, more than 200 thousand tons of vegetables are produced annually in the region in agricultural enterprises and peasant farms, and more than 195 thousand tons in the Left-bank arid regions. The yield of onions, carrots, beets, cabbage on irrigation is from 400 to 800 centners per hectare, potatoes 250 centners per hectare. By the end of the year, due to the implementation of a number of projects, it is planned to increase the area by 13 thousand hectares.
Now the farms of the region are starting to harvest fodder, there is an active preparation for harvesting. “For the harvest period, winter sowing and sowing season 2023, the region’s farmers are provided with the necessary material and technical resources, including machinery, fuel, seed and planting material,” the regional minister sums up.
