In the first eight months of 2025, vegetable production in modern greenhouse complexes in the Chelyabinsk Region increased by 20.7%. 27,000 tons of produce were produced. More cucumbers were grown in greenhouses.
The Chelyabinsk Region ranks first in the Urals Federal District for greenhouse vegetable production, and in the Russian ranking, due to increased production, it rose from 15th to 11th place. Compared to last year's level, production from January to August increased by 4,600 tons.
"To maintain profitability and develop production, use new, higher-yielding crop varieties, plant protection products, and ensure timely equipment upgrades, the state is subsidizing greenhouse complexes using supplementary lighting technology. This year, 38.3 million rubles have been allocated from the federal and regional budgets for these purposes. "The results of the region's farmers' work are in line with the objectives of the national project for technological support of food security," noted Anna Kozhevina, HEAD of the Department for the Development of Crop Production and Small Farming at the Chelyabinsk Region Ministry of Agriculture.
The region's greenhouse area totals 56.9 hectares. The main producers are the Churilovo agrocomplex in Chelyabinsk and the Ural Agropark in Ust-Katav, both part of the ROST Group of Companies, a leader in the Russian market for greenhouse vegetables.
"Despite the fact that the greenhouse area of the agricultural enterprises remained unchanged, by the third ten days of September we managed to achieve a 23% increase in yield compared to the same period last year. This result was made possible by equipment modernization, the development of biosecurity, and the optimization of areas under cucumber and tomato cultivation. This allows us to better supply residents of the region, as well as other regions of RUSSIA, with our fresh, tasty, and healthy produce," noted the ROST Group press service.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Chelyabinsk Region, 28.5 thousand tons of cucumbers and tomatoes were produced in the region as of September 23 (as of September 23, 2024, production was 23.2 thousand tons).
