PIONERPRODUKT .by during the AgroExpedition “Agriculture of Kazakhstan” visited one of the leading breeding farms for the Aberdeen-Angus breed - Arharly-Maibuirek LLP in the Zhetysu region of Kazakhstan. At the time of filming, the farm had almost 70,000 hectares of land and more than 10,000 HEAD of Aberdeen Angus alone and the same number of Hereford cattle on another territory. But this time we will only look at Aberdeen Angus heifers.
In 2015, Aberdeen Angus breeding stock was imported from Australia by sea and several aircraft.
The heifers graze on sandy, semi-desert pastures, each cage of approximately 1000 hectares is fenced with an electric shepherd and, in some places, with barbed wire.
For watering, wells have been drilled in the pastures, from which water is pumped out. Old artesian wells are also used, from which water flows by gravity since Soviet times.
Calf beating is carried out at five to six months of age - we will look at this process in one of the following videos. The bulls and heifers are separated into different groups and sent to the steppe for rearing. After growing, selected bulls go to breed (for themselves or for sale), selected heifers go to repair their own herd, and the remaining animals go to fattening and slaughter.
The livestock spend ten months of the year on pasture, and in early January they are transferred to stabling until mid-March. This is due to the fact that cows, unlike horses, cannot grow dark. Stall housing is the same cages, but smaller in size, without any warm rooms. We will definitely watch them in one of the following videos.
Arharly-Maibuirek LLP uses natural insemination. To do this, bulls are driven into the herd for two months to work. The load per bull is 15 heifers to get guaranteed coverage. Based on the results of the breeding campaign, all non-pregnant heifers are discarded and sent to slaughter. They are not given a second chance, since with a large population there is always someone to replace.
Calving begins on March 20 and lasts until May 20.
The bulls used on the farm change every year. They are imported not only from Kazakhstan, but also from other countries of the world.
Arharly-Maibuirek LLP maintains strict pedigree records. Each animal has a chip in which information is recorded that allows you to track the pedigree and all procedures performed on the animal.
