PIONERPRODUKT.by continues to publish videos from the AgroExpedition "Agriculture of Kazakhstan". In this issue, we will continue our story about the farm of Suleimenov K.S. in the Akmola region, which specializes in breeding pedigree Edilbaev sheep.
All the rams after weaning at 4-5 months are united into a separate flock. The weight of the rams at this age is from 45 to 60 kg, with an average daily gain of 360-400 g. Weight gain occurs only due to mother's MILK and pasture forage.
The farm has a strict breeding selection, significantly exceeding the breed indicators for Edilbaevs of this age. When selecting rams after weaning, the following indicators are taken into account: live weight, fat tail shape, exterior and wool indicators. These indicators allow us to determine the productive and valuable qualities of lambs.
The class of the animal is determined after the first assessment at the age of 15 months, and the final assessment is carried out at 18 months.
The technology for growing the Edilbaev breed is standard: obtaining spring lambs, transferring them to sakmans, then driving them out to pasture and by the beginning of August, weaning takes place.
In 2023, the farm received about 2,000 rams and about the same number of ewes. Since the farm has a breeding status, buyers are given a full package of documents upon purchase, which allows them to receive a state subsidy.
The location of the Suleimenovs' farm, like the whole of Northern Kazakhstan, is characterized by a harsh and unpredictable climate. In winter, after snow, it can rain, and then the temperature will drop to -40 degrees. A crust of ice forms. Young animals will not be able to teben in such conditions, so the farm always has a supply of hay in case of weather anomalies. Adults calmly teben in winter, which lasts 6 months in this region.
