FT learned about Hungary's refusal to support new sanctions against Russia Politics
The details of the ninth sanctions package were not previously known, but on December 7, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that 200 individuals and legal entities would be subject to restrictions, including three banks, among which she named the All-Russian Regional Development Bank (RRDB).
So far, European countries have not been able to agree on the ninth package of anti-Russian sanctions; on December 12, this was confirmed by the HEAD of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell. “This meeting of the EU Council will be very long and difficult. We have on the agenda the approval of the ninth package of sanctions against Russia. We are still in the process [of negotiation] and have not finished yet,” he said. Borrell pointed out that the sanctions proposal is "only a proposal, not a final decision" and needs to be discussed. “There are still a number of issues that need to be agreed upon,” the diplomat added. Earlier, the FT wrote that Hungary opposed the new sanctions. Her vote is enough to block the entire package, as the decision must be unanimous.
