In recent years, the EXPORT of cattle from Spain has been the main driver of cattle production. However, new geopolitical situations, strong competition in livestock prices and the upcoming EU regulation on the transport of live animals may negatively affect the supply of Spanish livestock outside the EU.
At the same time, despite the decline in domestic consumption of beef by Spanish households, in 2023 beef consumption may continue to grow due to the recovery of the catering and tourism sector, which will lead to a further increase in Spanish beef imports.
