The fact is that 65% of respondents called the prospects for the labor market in their home country excellent or good. And they assessed their financial situation no less optimistically: new areas of employment are developing in the country, there is an opportunity to receive a stable income, and prices remain moderate.
“The current value of the index at 107 points is a record since the start of its measurements in RUSSIA in 2021. Previously, it almost never exceeded 90 points, and in 2023 it crossed an important psychological mark, when the number of optimistic Russians exceeded the more pessimistic ones, ”NielsenIQ stressed the publication.
As Viktor Evtukhov, Deputy HEAD of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, told Izvestia, “the results of a study of the Russian division of NielsenIQ are another fixation of positive processes in the economy and an increase in consumer activity in Russia, this is confirmed by official statistics: according to recent figures from Rosstat, as of July 31, 2023 annual inflation was 4.42%, for food products - 2.29%.
He added that if you look at food without the fruit and vegetable group, which is subject to seasonal fluctuations, then inflation will be less than 1%. Yevtukhov stressed that the turnover of retail trade also increased. According to official data, in June it amounted to almost 4 trillion rubles, which in comparable prices is 10% more than in June of the previous year, and 1.5% more than in May 2023.
“The upward trend is stable and has been observed from month to month for the last six months at least,” the official emphasized. Even more revealing is the situation in the catering industry: in June, turnover increased by 12.2% in comparable prices compared to June last year.
In general, for the first half of 2023, catering showed a turnover of 1.32 trillion rubles - an increase of almost 15% compared to the same period in 2022. “This is a confident positive indicator, which indicates high economic activity and the overcoming of all the challenges of modern times by key sectors of the economy, including the consumer market,” Yevtukhov said.
