According to data released by the Bureau of Livestock Production (BAI), the Philippines increased its MEAT imports in the first four months of 2022 by 10%, reaching 350,000 tons entering the market during this period. BAI data showed that the increase in imports of pork and chicken meat led to double-digit growth in the total volume of imported meat products during the reporting period.

Pork imports into the country from January to April increased by a fifth to 186,220 tons from 154,464 tons in the same period last year, according to BAI data. Pork imports accounted for 53.2% of total meat imports over the four-month period. BAI data showed that imports of pork tenderloin and brisket, which account for about half of all pork imports, reached 91,371 tons.

Statistics show that chicken meat imports into the country increased by 4.35% to 102,200 tons from last year's 97,980 tons due to increased purchases of chicken tenderloin and mechanically separated meat. Meanwhile, BAI data showed that the country's imports of beef, buffalo meat, lamb, duck and turkey meat declined year-on-year over a four-month period.
