PIONERPRODUKT.by continues to publish videos from the AgroExpedition “Agriculture of Kazakhstan”. In this video we will show how seed material is obtained from breeding rams at the Alakol-Agro enterprise.
The semen collection process begins with preparing the ewe for heat. She is placed in a small wooden arena and her HEAD is fixed in the machine. The ram is then allowed to approach the ewe, and the livestock specialist uses an artificial vagina to obtain the semen. When the ram begins to mount, you need to insert an artificial vagina in time. On average, one milliliter of semen can be obtained from one ram.
The resulting seed is sent to the laboratory, where it is analyzed for motility, then the seed is diluted. Semen extender contains egg yolk, which serves as a nutrient medium for sperm and increases their motility. Dilution is made in a ratio of 1:2.
After dilution, the seed is applied to a glass slide and examined under a microscope. Experts evaluate the color, consistency, smell of the seed, as well as its motility and the number of live sperm.
Semen received from breeding rams will be delivered to different insemination points. In total, 11 flocks of Kazakh fine-wool sheep will be replaced. These ewes will be bred to Texel, Suffolk, Bluetexel and Dorper rams.
These are far from experiments - this is already a breed transformation. The Kazakh fine wool was first covered with Suffolk, then the resulting cross was covered with Texel to get the best from all these breeds. Naturally, all work is carried out with the involvement of scientists.
Experiments took place several years ago, at first they were carried out on 100 heads of each breed, then on 2-3 thousand, and now this is a full-fledged breed transformation.
The choice of these breeds makes it possible to improve the MEAT qualities of sheep of local Kazakh breeds while maintaining their adaptive capabilities.
