On the Don began mass veterinary treatment of farm animals and poultry

The Don government held a meeting of a special commission for the prevention and elimination of especially dangerous and contagious animal diseases in the Rostov region.
The meeting, chaired by First Deputy Governor Viktor Goncharov, was held via videoconference with the heads of municipalities and members of the regional and district commissions. The HEAD of the veterinary and sanitary service of the Southern Military District Gennady Sokolov also took part in it.
We discussed the epizootic situation, mass veterinary treatment of livestock and other issues.
Head of the Department of Veterinary Medicine of the Rostov Region Alexander Kruglikov reported that in March of this year, the department approved a plan for monitoring studies on African swine fever from pigs in private farms with a low level of biological protection.
“In 2022, monitoring studies for ASF are planned in the amount of 1935 samples. In March, 645 blood samples were already taken and examined, the results are negative,” said the head of the regional veterinary service.
Alexander Kruglikov also said that from March 28 to April 8, 450 thousand doses of the Rabistav vaccine were spread on the territory of the hunting grounds of the region to prevent rabies among wild carnivores.
In addition to the immunization of wild carnivores, in 2022 it is planned to vaccinate against rabies about 760 thousand heads of productive and unproductive domestic animals. As of April 13, almost 60,000 heads have already been vaccinated, including 40,000 dogs and cats. Annual, regular use of the vaccine ensures a reduction in positive cases of rabies in the region.
No less serious work is being done by the veterinary service to prevent brucellosis, bovine leukemia and other contagious animal diseases.
The head of the Don veterinary said that seasonal preventive treatment of livestock and poultry had begun in all districts of the Rostov region and appealed to the heads of municipalities with a request to assist the state veterinary service in informing the population and providing reliable information about registered animals in the territories of settlements.
