Somnologists gave advice on restoring sleep after the New Year and COVID-19

The New Year holidays and the postponed covid-19 can lead to insomnia and other sleep problems, somnologists interviewed by RBC warned.

“Every third person who has had covid has problems with sleep. And the New Year is also a well-known factor in insomnia. We will have a social jetlag after New Year's Eve without sleep, and a late awakening, which will trigger subsequent weekend insomnia, ”explained the HEAD of the Unison sleep service, neurologist-somnologist Elena Tsareva.

To solve this problem, you need to accustom yourself to get up at the same time even on weekends. “You will need to get up on January 1 at the same time as usual. You can have a bite to eat, do something else - so that the light hits the retina, so that the signal goes through the biorhythms. After breakfast, you can sleep more, ”said the DOCTOR.

Tsareva also advises to follow the “rule of 15 minutes”, that is, not to be in bed without sleep for longer than the specified time. “If, for example, you watch TV for a long time while lying in bed, then the body will understand that you can not sleep in bed. And it won't. Even if you already have insomnia, this method allows you to break this bed-no-sleep reflex, she explained.

The doctor recommends not forcing yourself to sleep so that the bed is not associated with negative emotions. You need to approach the bed with a feeling of drowsiness.
