About 850 thousand sheep, or 91% of the livestock, have already been sheared in Kalmykia

According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kalmykia, the 2022 shearing campaign included 929.3 thousand sheep. By June 23, 846.6 thousand sheep were sheared in the region, which is 91% of their total number. Received 2552 tons of wool, the average cut from one animal is 3.0 kg. On the same date in 2021, 809.9 thousand sheep (83%) were sheared, 1,695 tons of wool were obtained, and the average sheared was 2.1 kg. Last year, the figures were lower due to drought.

Among the districts of the region, the leader is Yashkulsky, where 575.7 tons of wool were obtained, 207.7 thousand sheep were sheared, the average sheared was 2.8 kg, and Chernozemelsky, where 425.4 tons of wool were obtained, 129.4 thousand animals were sheared, the average cut is 3.3 kg. In these areas, the largest number of sheep is concentrated.

State support for the production and sale of wool obtained from fine-wool and semi-fine-wool breeds of sheep will be a good help for sheep farms. In 2022, the amount of subsidies will amount to 31.6 million rubles, which is 2.8 times more than in 2021.
