Cattle Feed Market: Price Analysis and Production Statistics

The production of compound feed for cattle in RUSSIA, in the context of the dynamic development of animal husbandry, including beef cattle breeding, has had a steady upward trend in recent years.

In 2020-2021, as well as in the first half of 2022, there was a steady increase in prices for cattle feed in Russia, which was associated with the strengthening of prices for grain, oilseeds, oilcakes and meals of oilseeds and other ingredients for compound feed. In May 2022, prices reached their peak, but in the second half of 2022 they weakened significantly, which was also due to a decrease in prices for raw materials for compound feed. In 2023, the growth in prices for cattle feed resumed, which was also noted in January-February 2024. In March, prices weakened somewhat.

Production of compound feed for cattle in Russia

According to Rosstat, the volume of production of compound feed for cattle in Russia in 2023 amounted to 3.0 million tons, which is 3.9% (0.1 million tons) more than in 2022.

In January-March 2024, compared to the same period in 2023, the figures increased by 0.1% and amounted to 0.8 million tons.

In the overall structure of production of compound feed for cattle in 2023, the Central Federal District is the leader, with its share, according to AB-Center calculations, accounting for 33.0% of the total volume in the country.

Also significant volumes are accounted for by the Volga Federal District - 22.9%, the Southern Federal District - 14.8%, the Northwestern Federal District - 11.7%, the Siberian Federal District - 10.0% and the Ural Federal District - 6.1%. Feed for cattle is produced in smaller volumes in the North Caucasian Federal District - 1.1% and the Far Eastern Federal District - 0.4%.

Prices for compound feed for cattle in Russia

Important!  The average wholesale prices (manufacturer's selling prices, according to Rosstat) for cattle feed produced in Russia are presented here. These figures can only be taken as an indicator of market trends. Depending on the technical characteristics (composition), prices may differ significantly.

According to Rosstat, average selling prices of agricultural producers for cattle feed in Russia in March 2024 were at 19,473 RUB/t excluding VAT, which, according to AB-Center calculations, is 2.1% lower than the figures for the previous month. Over the year, prices have increased by 14.7%.

As of March 2024, the highest prices for cattle feed were observed in the Far Eastern Federal District - 28,413 RUB/t, compared to the same period last year, prices have strengthened by 6.1%. The lowest prices were in the Siberian Federal District - 15,074 RUB/t, over the year they have grown by 10.4%.
