The publication notes that the development of the sub-sector can be traced in all segments of the agricultural industry: large and medium-sized businesses, farms, agricultural consumer cooperatives and in the personal farmsteads of rural residents. In Kabardino-Balkaria, turkey breeding is a traditional area of agricultural activity.
Local turkey growers supply poultry MEAT and a wide range of processed products to the regions of the North Caucasus Federal District, Moscow, St. Petersburg, as well as large industrial centers of the Urals and Siberia. At the same time, they have clear competitive advantages - environmental friendliness of production and budget prices for goods.
According to the executive DIRECTOR of the agricultural consumer processing cooperative "Standard-Agro" Valery Borsov, in order to scale up a promising and profitable direction of agribusiness, both in the republic and in RUSSIA as a whole, an increase in the production of turkey hatching eggs is required. Until now, the association of farmers in the village of Chegem Vtoroy purchased breeding material in the Netherlands, but now the old logistics schemes are associated with additional costs and too long delivery times.
Vice-Rector of the Kabardino-Balkarian State Agrarian University named after V.I. V.M. Kokova on research work, DOCTOR of Agricultural Sciences Rustam Abdulkhalikov predicts that in 2023 the total production of turkey meat in Russia will be about 420 thousand tons, and by 2030 it will grow to 650 thousand tons. At the same time, in the short term, the share of Kabardino-Balkaria may annually account for up to 100 thousand tons.
The development of turkey breeding is facilitated by the high supply of the regional market with raw materials for animal feed: wheat, corn, soybeans, vegetable oil and other components. Crop production in the republic is focused on sustainable support for animal husbandry and the formation of a sustainable forage base, the expert noted.
Meat market analysts state that in Russia, turkey production is ahead of other areas of poultry farming in terms of growth. According to NAPI, over the past five years, Russia has risen in the world ranking from 7th to 3rd place, increasing the volume of production of turkey meat products by 80% - from 231 thousand tons in 2017 to 414.6 thousand tons in 2022 -m (+3.6% yoy).
