In the first eight months of this year, Chinese imports of pork and by-products reached 1.96 million tons. Although this is 9.5% higher than the same period last year (1.79 million tons), it is a far cry from the 3.83 million tons imported in January-August 2020.
While monthly offal imports have remained more or less stable this year (between 90,000 and 110,000 tonnes per month), pork imports have fallen from 220,000 tonnes in January to half that in August (110,000 tonnes), which is the lowest monthly value since 2019.
