PIONERPRODUKT .by continues to publish videos from the AgroExpedition "Agriculture of Kazakhstan". In this video, we will show a herd that is driven from summer pastures (jailau) to winter ones.
The video is commented by Baurzhan Kenesbekovich Ospanov, the owner of the enterprise, a well-known businessman and philanthropist in Kazakhstan.
This herd has about 1000 heads, with twenty-five flocks, in which there are about 300 mares. The night before, we did not suspect that we would be filming this herd. Therefore, the herders did not have time to gather the entire herd, since the flocks can run away at a great distance from each other. On average, it takes about a day to gather one herd. Moreover, in this place there are wild APPLE trees, which horses love very much.
Usually, this herd grazes at maximum altitudes, about 3200 meters above sea level, where the tongues of the glacier begin. At this altitude, snow falls quite early, so the herd goes down a little lower - to the autumn pastures. Here it will stay for about a month, after which it will go down closer to the winter camps on the plain.
All the horses represented in this herd, including stallions of the local Kazakh breed, obtained at the Alkol-Agro enterprise. The main difference between this herd and the others is the large number of piebald horses.
As a rule, there are 4 herdsmen per herd, with a 2/2 duty schedule. But still, the final decision on staffing is made by the senior herdsman.
Although there is damage from predators, it is small. In general, the Kazakhs respect wolves, considering them their ancestors, so they are philosophical about losses from predators. But in any case, the herdsmen have wolfhounds, a local breed called Tobet. But the stallions and mares themselves take care of the foals and fight off predators.
In general, horses can cover quite long distances, especially in autumn, when they are full of strength. It is not uncommon for riders to cover the distance from Astana to Almaty in 12 days, that is 100 km per day. Of course, as everywhere, the principle of gradual loads must be taken into account, otherwise a young stallion can get worn out and then cheat - refuse to go.
