This year, 35 promising varieties and hybrids of winter and spring wheat, barley, oats, rapeseed, oilseed flax, corn, including for grain, and potatoes were recommended for inclusion in the State Register of Breeding Achievements approved for use in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. This decision was made at a meeting of the regional commission following the results of the state variety testing in 2023.
The presence of a variety in the register gives the right to propagate, subject to quarantine requirements, import, as well as sell seed and planting material.
“Selection and seed production work in the region is carried out at a high level by specialized farms and scientific organizations, but there are still many reserves for the development of this industry. First of all, these are the tasks of increasing the share of high-quality seeds of domestic selection and creating breeding and seed centers, which are especially relevant in the conditions of import substitution. We will move further in these directions,” emphasized the region’s Minister of Agriculture Ilya Vasiliev. The Zarya
poultry farm continues the construction of an integrated selection and seed-growing center for the production of agricultural seeds in the Emelyanovsky district. The future production capacity is 20 thousand tons per year. The company receives about 8 thousand tons of seed material annually. Until 2024-2026, four more projects for the construction of selection and seed production centers are planned to be implemented in the region.
Seed production in the region is supported from the federal and regional budgets. Farmers are reimbursed for part of the costs of elite seed production of agricultural crops and carrying out agrotechnological work in crop production. Agricultural research organizations can count on grants for development, including increasing the production of elite seeds.
Representatives of seed farms, science and education, the Russian Agricultural Center, the State Variety Commission and the Ministry of Agriculture of the region took part in the meeting.
Every year, about a thousand variety trials are planted in the region at 12 state variety plots located in different soil and climatic zones. In terms of their number, the region is still third in RUSSIA.
