MegaFon ruled out consequences for subscribers due to US restrictions

The mobile operator MegaFon has ruled out the consequences for users in connection with the EXPORT restrictions imposed on companies by the United States . This was reported to RBC in the press service of MegaFon.

“We sincerely do not understand the motives and reasons for including the company in the list of export restrictions from the US Department of Commerce. <...> We do not see any direct consequences for our subscribers and customers, since we are not engaged in export sales, ”the press service said in a statement. MegaFon clarified that the restrictions on communication services, including roaming, do not apply.

The company added that they continue to study the possible consequences of restrictions on activities by the United States. “The presence of MegaFon in this list of restrictions may affect the need to obtain additional licenses from the US Department of Commerce if we decide to import anything from this country,” the operator’s press service specified.

On February 24, on the occasion of the anniversary of Russia's military operation in Ukraine, the United States imposed sanctions against Russian companies. These included banks, in particular Lanta-Bank, Uralsib and MTS-Bank. The Skolkovo Technopark, like Megafon, came under export restrictions. In addition to Russian companies, five Chinese organizations, as well as enterprises from France, Luxembourg, CANADA and the Netherlands, were subject to restrictions. Among the Russian ones are Dexias, Innovations and Technologies LLC and Promtekhkomplekt.
