The United States will introduce a ceiling on prices for Russian oil products from February 5; the limit will be set at $100 and $45 per barrel for oil products trading at prices above and below the cost of crude oil, respectively.
The agency said that the sanctions associated with the price ceiling will not affect the supply of petroleum products to Bulgaria, Croatia and EU countries that have no access to the sea. The ministry referred to the decision of the EU Council, which deals with the sixth package of European sanctions. it includes a price ceiling on crude oil and petroleum products and includes temporary exemptions for European states that depend on Russian supplies.

In accordance with the decision of the US Department of the Treasury, from the day the restrictions come into force, American companies and individuals will not be able to provide services related to the sea transportation of Russian oil products if they do not fit into the price restrictions. Earlier, the ministry reported that the price ceiling would not affect the supply of energy resources loaded on ships for sea transportation before February 5 and delivered to their destination before April 1. Subject to these conditions, US companies "may continue to provide services related to the sea transportation of petroleum products of Russian origin purchased at a price above the ceiling."
The G7 countries and Australia have reached an agreement on marginal prices for Russian oil products following the European Union; the ceiling at $100 and $45 per barrel, depending on their category, will also come into effect on February 5. According to a spokesman for the US Treasury Department, the goal of the restrictions is not to "collapse the Russian economy," but to prevent the Russian authorities from simultaneously supporting it and "financing the fighting in Ukraine," CNN reports.
The UK, which is a member of the G7, at the same time announced that it would not apply a price ceiling, since it had previously banned the import of Russian oil and oil products.
The Russian authorities have previously said that energy resources will not be supplied to those countries that have imposed restrictions. The ban on oil supplies has already been in effect since February 1.
