Novosibirsk residents “stuck” in Asia are suing the Russian Foreign Ministry over a legitimate payment

Family from Novosibirsk during border closures due to the covid-19 pandemicfound herself locked in Thailand without a livelihood. Siberians are trying to recover from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation the material assistance due to them and unpaid

Marina Myakotnykh, a resident of Novosibirsk, filed a lawsuit against the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. She demands to pay the money due to her family in accordance with the Regulations “On the provision of social support (assistance) to Russian citizens who are on the territory of a foreign state and who are unable to return to the Russian Federation due to the spread of a new CORONAVIRUS infection.”

In addition, the plaintiff demands to recognize as illegal the inaction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, expressed in the failure to take measures to provide assistance to her family during her stay in Thailand: from April 12, 2020 to this day.

In accordance with the Regulations “On the provision of social support (assistance) to Russian citizens who are on the territory of a foreign state and are unable to return to the Russian Federation due to the spread of a new coronavirus infection”, Russian tourists could receive material assistance if they had tickets to return to the Russian Federation with March 16 to May 31, 2020. The daily payment for a citizen of the Russian Federation was 2.4 thousand rubles, for a minor under 14 years old - 1.6 thousand rubles. Thus, Myakotnykh believes that her family should have received 8 thousand rubles a day.

According to the purchased tickets, Marina Myakotnykh, her husband Yegor and two daughters born in 2019 and 2017 flew to Thailand at the beginning of 2020. “Marina has long wanted to go on a trip and I made her dream come true,” Yegor admitted. They planned to return on 12 April. Tickets were purchased back in December 2019.

However, on the appointed date, the Myakotny family was unable to return to Novosibirsk, as the S7 airline flight was canceled due to the suspension of air traffic between RUSSIA and Thailand amid the spread of the coronavirus.
