The list includes marketable fish, caviar , and fish seeding material. The volume of trout cultivation was 632 tons, sturgeon took second place - 166 tons, followed by carp - 29 tons and whitefish species (whitefish, muksun, nelma) - 2 tons. The largest increase in volume compared to the same period in 2022 in the amount of 184 tons was given by trout, an increase of 41%.
The production of rainbow trout fish seeding material by three fish farms for the further cultivation of commercial fish amounted to 56 tons. The production of Siberian sturgeon fry amounted to 3 tons, and sterlet - 2 tons. In 2022, 24 tons of fish fry were raised for the entire year; this year, over 9 months, the volume increased by more than 2.5 times - 61 tons. 10 tons of edible black caviar were obtained.
In January - September of this year, aquaculture enterprises sold 100 tons of marketable fish, 52 tons of fish seeding material, and about 6.7 tons of black caviar. Trout farms have started selling marketable fish; 62 tons have already been sold. Commercial fish is sold in the region through a network of stores at the regional fish processing enterprise and supplied to public catering establishments. Fish farmers have organized their own trade, including on-site trade in Cherepovets and Vologda.
“Aquaculture in the Vologda region is a strategically important and promising area of agricultural production. Since 2014, the region has paid special attention to this type of economic activity, and provided multilateral assistance to fish farming enterprises. This year, more than 10 million rubles have been allocated to support the production of commercial fish and about 24.7 million rubles have been allocated to reimburse part of the costs of purchasing equipment in the fish farming industry, commented the HEAD of the Department of Agriculture and Food Resources of the region, Sergei Poromonov. – Since 2014, it has been possible to increase the volume of aquaculture production by 12 times and reach 1093 tons in 2022. This year we plan to receive 1,100 tons of aquaculture products.”
The region has picked up a steady pace in the development of fish farming. The Vologda region took fourth place in terms of “Production (growing) of marketable fish” at the end of 2022 among the constituent entities of the Northwestern Federal District. The Murmansk region, the Republic of Karelia and the Leningrad region have better results .
