Tambov agricultural producers were told about the possibilities of domestic selection

The Russian Ministry of Agriculture sets the task of import substitution of seeds for farmers. In the Tambov region, such work has been actively carried out for several years. Agricultural producers in the region use up to 90% of grain crop seeds of domestic selection. From 40 to 60% of sunflower, soybean, and corn seeds are of Russian production. And the share of domestic seeds of these crops is growing every year.
The issue of import dependence on SUGAR beet seeds remains relevant. In 2023, only 2.5% of the area of ​​this industrial crop was sown in the region with domestic seeds. The main share of seeds are sugar beet hybrids of foreign selection. A similar situation is observed in other regions of the country.
Experts note that RUSSIA has good potential for the development of domestic seed production.
In the Tambov region, several farms are engaged in variety testing work. In order to effectively increase the share of domestic seeds in the fields of the region, specialists from the branch of the State Variety Commission, employees of Russian research institutes, and heads of seed-growing and peasant farms in the region have been involved in the work.
Every year, about 2 thousand variety tests are conducted in the regional branch of the State Variety Commission. Based on the results of the tests, the list of the most promising varieties and hybrids is updated. The main criteria for selection are yield, resistance to diseases and pests.
it should be noted that many farms in the Tambov region have the right to grow and sell seeds. In our region, there are also organizations for which seed production is the main activity.
"We intend to more actively orient our agricultural producers to use more domestic seeds. After all, some varieties of sugar beet are not inferior to imported ones. They have passed variety tests and fully meet all today's requirements. Experts told Tambov farmers about this today. I call on all producers in the region to pay attention to our seeds,” noted the Deputy HEAD of the Tambov Region.Minister of Agriculture of the region Alena Sytova.
Let us recall that this year more than 5.2 million tons of grain crops, 5.7 million tons of sugar beets, 430 thousand tons of soybeans were harvested from the fields of the region. All these are new records of Tambov region.
