Rospotrebnadzor named a method for making an accurate diagnosis of COVID-19

An accurate diagnosis of CORONAVIRUS disease can only be made with the help of laboratory testing, since covid-19 has no specific symptoms. This was stated by Deputy DIRECTOR for Clinical and Analytical Work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor Natalia Pshenichnaya, RIA Novosti reports.

“There are no specific symptoms that are unique to the coronavirus, so it is impossible to diagnose it without laboratory testing,” Pshenichnaya said.

According to her, a person may suspect that he is sick with COVID-19 if he observes respiratory symptoms such as cough, runny nose and fever, and if he has been in contact with an infected person a few days ago. However, flu and SARS can have these symptoms, so it is necessary to undergo laboratory testing for coronavirus.

Earlier, Alexander Gorelov, Deputy Director for Research at the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, also noted that the coronavirus has no specific symptoms, which makes it difficult to recognize it in a mild form. “Unlike COVID, the flu has a more or less outlined picture, but with mild forms it is impossible to differentiate it by eye,” Gorelov said.
