Protsenko spoke about the differences between the new wave of COVID-19 incidence

Denis Protsenko, chief physician of hospital No. 40 in Kommunarka, spoke about the features of the new wave of CORONAVIRUS in RUSSIA and reported on the massive spread of the new delta strain, broadcast by the Rossiya-24 TV channel.

“In the Moscow population now, probably 90% of the circulating strain is the Indian strain or the delta coronavirus,” he said.

According to him, the new strain has its own characteristics, including the severe course of the disease in young patients. “If earlier we said, in the first and second waves, that a severe course [of the disease], getting into the intensive care unit, death are mainly elderly patients with concomitant diseases <...> now the patient’s picture is significantly younger,” he clarified HEAD physician

He also added that the second feature of the virus is the rapid deterioration of the condition: the volume of lung damage is growing rapidly. In addition, Protsenko spoke about the emergence of a group of patients who do not respond to the usual treatment protocols that are effective against the first strains.
