The Russian embassy in the United States has asked the White House and the US State Department to issue a visa to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his entire delegation to travel to the session of the UN General Assembly, Russian Ambassador Anatoly Antonov said on the Rossiya 24 TV channel.
“The embassy has already applied to the White House, the State Department with a demand to fulfill the obligations of the country on whose territory the UN headquarters is based, and to immediately issue visas to the minister and all members of the Russian delegation,” he said.
The Foreign Ministry urged the United States not to interfere with the issuance of visas to participants in the UN session Politics
The ambassador stressed that the diplomatic mission will continue to insist that the United States does not create obstacles for the entry of Russian representatives participating in the event.
“Tomorrow I will have another visit to the State Department, where I intend to raise this problem as one of the central issues — the problem of the full-scale, full-fledged participation of our minister and delegation in the upcoming September events in New York,” Antonov added.
The high-level week of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly will be held from 20 to 26 September. This year it will be held face-to-face, unlike the previous two years, when due to the covid-19 pandemic, some performances were pre-recorded on video. The Russian delegation, on behalf of the President, is headed by Lavrov, he will be accompanied by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin, Chairman of the International Committee of the Federation Council Grigory Karasin, Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya and other politicians and diplomats.
Lavrov is due to speak at the General Assembly on September 24.
