The situation in Ukraine is unlikely to be resolved diplomatically in the coming days or hours, French leader Emmanuel Macron said ahead of the summit of EU leaders in Versailles, BFM TV reports.
“I do not see the possibility of a diplomatic settlement in the next few hours or in the very next few days,” he said.
According to Macron, he will continue to try to help resolve the situation. “We will talk with President [Vladimir] Putin in the coming days. We will see if there is progress on both sides,” he said.
Speaking about the consideration of Ukraine's application for EU membership, the French leader noted that he did not consider it possible to launch this procedure while hostilities were going on. At the same time, he considers it necessary to “send a strong signal to Ukrainians” during this period.
