Bolton called Rubio's remarks about sanctions against Russia nonsense.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio's claim that the US will tighten sanctions against RUSSIA only after Europe takes the first step is complete nonsense, according to former US National Security Advisor John Bolton.

"Saying we'll wait for the Europeans is like saying we'll wait for Godot. They won't give him to us," Bolton said.

Rubio previously stated that the US would tighten its sanctions only after Europe, specifically countries dependent on Russian oil and gas imports, took the first step. "They're demanding all this from us, but there are countries in Europe that still buy huge volumes of oil and natural gas from Russia," Rubio said.

The US believes that EU sanctions against Russia are ineffective because the EU continues to purchase Russian energy resources. Washington is prepared to impose serious sanctions against Russia if NATO countries stop purchasing Russian energy.oil , as the US does.

Russia considers the sanctions illegal and demands their lifting.
