An emergency situation for African swine fever was declared in Komsomolsk-on-Amur after an outbreak in one of the subsidiary farms in the village of Pobeda, recorded on April 3.
A round-the-clock veterinary post has been established in the epizootic focus. All pigs within a radius of five and eight kilometers are subject to depopulation.
Aleksey Shcheglyuk, HEAD of the anti-epizootic department of the city station for combating animal diseases, reported that groups for the alienation of livestock had already been formed and a place for the disposal of carcasses had been determined. The station staff is awaiting further instructions from the regional government.
Immediately after the outbreak, representatives of the veterinary service toured private farmsteads in the exclusion zone and talked to local residents. The number of pigs that will have to be destroyed is about 1200.
