
In 2023, scientists in the country developed and began producing an ASF vaccine , manufactured by AVAC Vietnam. In June, it announced that it would sell 3 million doses domestically and EXPORT 600,000 doses to other countries, including the Philippines and Indonesia. However, the vaccine’s use is limited due to its high cost and lack of confidence in its full effectiveness; it is considered only an adjunct to biosecurity measures.
The increase in the number of sick pigs and new outbreaks of ASF poses a threat not only to Vietnam's pork sector but also to the global pork market, raising concerns about potential product shortages and rising prices in the region.
