MINSK . The Vitebsk prosecutor opened a criminal case for abandonment in danger in defense of the rights and legitimate interests of a 61-year-old local woman, a third-degree disabled person whose son had driven her to exhaustion, BelTA reports, citing the information service of the Vitebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office.
According to the case file, the 61-year-old woman was unable to move independently or care for herself after being discharged from the hospital. Instead of receiving help from her 39-year-old son, she was effectively abandoned and starved. For nine months, the man systematically abandoned his mother without necessary assistance, spending her pension mainly on food for himself and others.
ALCOHOL . He fed the pensioner once every two or three days, providing a meager diet of pasta and porridge with water, leading her to a state of extreme exhaustion (cachexia) and anemia.
Despite the need for medical rehabilitation for his mother after an injury to restore mobility to her injured leg, he ignored her requests to buy crutches. This led to improper fusion of the bones in her right leg and almost complete loss of mobility.
Unable to tolerate this treatment, the victim sought help from law enforcement officials, but later refused to file a complaint against her son, feeling sorry for him and not wanting any negative consequences.
Furthermore, the defendant in the case has a negative character reference at his place of residence, abuses alcohol, has been twice sent to a rehabilitative-labor clinic, and has multiple administrative and criminal records.
The case has been sent to the Vitebsk City Department of the Investigative Committee for a preliminary investigation.
