October 23,
Minsk . Since the beginning of
2025, 340 children have been injured in road accidents in Belarus, according to Vasily Demidovich, Deputy
Head of the Department for the Organization of the Work of Juvenile Inspectorates of the Prevention Department of the Main Directorate for Law Enforcement and Prevention of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, told BELTA.
The deputy head noted that road accidents involving children are a growing problem. "Based on the results of the first nine months, their number has increased. 340 children have already been injured in road accidents since the beginning of the year. One in four children has become disabled. Twenty children have already died on the roads this year," he said.According to Vasily Demidovich, these deaths are primarily related to operating vehicles such as mopeds, motorcycles, and cars. "Over the past five years, 98 children have died. Incidentally, that's three grades of schoolchildren. You don't have to look far. An example from three months ago: in the Smolevichi District, two minors decided to go for a motorcycle ride. They arrived at a store at 11:00 PM, just as the store was closing. But the saleswoman kindly offered them entry and, seeing that they were underage, sold them a bottle of vodka. They drank
it and continued riding. Ultimately, they lost control, slid into a ditch, crashed into a pole, and two children died," the deputy chief said.
He noted that there are many similar examples. "Just three days ago, in Soligorsk, traffic police officers discovered an old Ford that was weaving from side to side, posing a danger to drivers and pedestrians. It didn't respond to the traffic police's orders to stop. Our police officers began pursuing them. This also yielded no results. Ultimately, they used weapons. After shooting out two tires, they managed to stop the car. Three 16-year-olds were inside. Two of them were intoxicated.
"They were intoxicated , including the driver. It just so happened that they bought this car for Br800, drank
alcohol, and went for a drive. And
the parents , of course, knew about it. If they hadn't seen this car in time and stopped it, anything could have happened," added Vasily Demidovich.
