Internship for veterinarians in Russia will be launched in 2024

The educational experiment will be held on the basis of two universities - the Moscow State Academy of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology - MBA named after K.I. Scriabin and Don State Technical University (DSTU).

In each of the universities, they plan to recruit at least 20 graduates on a budgetary basis as part of an internship.

“The decision will make it possible to develop and implement educational internship programs in veterinary specialties, create a continuous educational system in the preparation of veterinarians, and improve their qualifications,” the government commented on the creation of an internship for veterinary specialists.

DSTU explained that the main goal of the internship is the training of highly specialized practicing veterinarians.

The duration of the internship will be 2 years. Graduates of specialized universities who have been trained as part of a specialty will be able to enter the internship.

The number of internship specialties can range from 15 to 30. Now this issue is being discussed in universities, as well as in the Association of Practicing Veterinarians.

As the rector of the Moscow Veterinary Academy Sergey Pozyabin previously reported to Veterinary and Life, internship training will consist of a theoretical course and practical work in leading veterinary and scientific centers, enterprises and agricultural holdings.

For example, it is planned that one of the educational programs will be "veterinary pharmacy". This program will include sections: management and economics of veterinary pharmacy; drug production technologies; monitoring the safety of medicinal products for veterinary use; control and supervision over the circulation of medicinal products for veterinary use.

Another program is “biotechnics and animal reproduction”. The content of this program will include the study of the biotechnology of reproduction and the preservation of the reproductive health and longevity of animals, reproductive surgery, genomic technologies, including cloning, genetic editing and preservation of the genetic material of high-value animals.

The term of the educational experiment to launch an internship will be 5 years. After the expiration of the experiment, the government can make appropriate changes to the federal law on education.
