Agriculture and Agri-Food CANADA has committed significant funds, reaching C$9.6 million, to fund 29 projects under the ASF Preparedness Program . These investments are considered key to keeping pigs safe and preventing the spread of disease. Rene Roy, chairman of the Canadian Pork Council, emphasized the importance of such programs, noting that they will help strengthen defenses against ASF and other similar threats.
In the United States , the Department of Agriculture has held several forums to discuss the ASF problem in North America. Although no forum was planned for 2024 , the annual ASF Action Weeks and the creation of a special web resource “Protect Our Pigs” indicate continued attention to this problem.
Researchers at North Carolina State University are actively working to develop plans and models to effectively control and prevent the spread of ASF should it occur in the United States. Their efforts are aimed at understanding how the disease spreads and developing innovative approaches to control it.
Also in different countries (Philippines, CHINA , Vietnam ) work is underway to update and test the ASF vaccine. The whole world is waiting for these results.
As such, North American countries continue to actively combat the threat of ASF by investing in preparedness programs, forums, and research to ensure the safety of their pig industries and prevent a pandemic of this dangerous disease.
