PIONERPRODUKT .by continues to publish videos from the AgroExpedition "Agriculture of Kazakhstan". In this video, we will show a three-hundred-year-old Sievers apple tree in the Zhungar-Alatau National Park. We will also talk about the features of the flora and fauna of the park and, of course, the development of tourism.
This 300-year-old Sievers apple tree grows in the foothills of the Dzhungar Alatau at an altitude of 1308 meters. In total, there are at least 40 forms of Sievers apple trees.
The national park was formed in 2010 with the aim of preserving local biodiversity, including these wild forms of apple trees. Many world scientists have conducted scientific research that confirmed that all cultivated varieties of apples originated from the Sievers apple tree. By the way, apples can grow and bear fruit for up to five hundred years.
This apple tree has a trunk girth of 1.8 meters with a height of 16 meters and a crown span of 14 meters. In addition, the Sievers apple tree tolerates drought and frost well, due to the fact that the root system goes deep into the ground.
it is known for certain that apple trees have been grown in the Caucasus and Central Asia since time immemorial, from where they migrated to Europe.
In 1929, the famous scientist N.I. Vavilov suggested that it was here, in the foothills of the Dzungarian Alatau, that one of the eleven centers of origin of agricultural crops was located. He characterized the South-East of Kazakhstan as a separate center of intraspecific diversity of wild apple trees, the gene pool of which is of interest for the selection of this crop. At the end of the twentieth century, a number of international expeditions were organized, which confirmed that the wild apple trees of this region served as the progenitors of cultivated varieties of apples.
The territory of the national park has equipped marked trails, along the entire length of which there are cozy campsites for tourists, including with equipped toilets. The roads to the park start from the aul of Lepsy (Lepsinsk), about 23 km long, which allows you to drive up to the popular mountain lakes, then there are either hiking or horse trails.
To visit the territory of the national park, all groups of tourists, including solo ones, must register with the ranger service. Moreover, this territory is close to the Chinese border, so there is a special procedure for registering and monitoring visitors.
The ranger service breeds planting material in large quantities, including Sievers apple trees, and intensively plants them in the clearings in the foothills of the Dzungarian Alatau. In addition, apple tree seedlings are in great demand among buyers.
Every spring, the park hosts the Sievers Apple Blossom Festival, which includes the planting of seedlings, fairs and concerts, sporting events and other entertainment.
