PIONERPRODUKT.by continues to publish videos from the AgroExpedition “Agriculture of Kazakhstan”. In this video we will show a young herd that is brought down from high mountain pastures - jailau - to autumn pastures located in the foothills of the Dzhungar Alatau.
Schools of horses must first be collected into a herd before moving. As a rule, this takes an experienced herder about a day. The duration of the haul at this enterprise is about 5 days.
Horses will stay on autumn pastures for another two months, after which they will go to winter camps. At the same time, the horses themselves know the way home. This is due to the fact that migration routes are approximately the same from year to year.
Stopping horses to rest is also not always easy; as a rule, this process depends on the weather. In bad weather or rain, this is a little more difficult to do. The moving schedule also takes into account that the horses do not become exhausted and lose weight, which will be so necessary during the winter. Therefore, herders do not drive horses, and even often they have to slow down.
The entire process of driving herdsmen is accompanied by a shift vehicle, usually based on a GAZ-66 car, which is equipped with everything necessary to provide good living conditions for herdsmen in bad weather, including a supply of food and water, a kitchen , as well as a TV and satellite phone .
The duties of the herder include not only looking after the horses and their HEALTH, but also implementing the plan for obtaining foals, which must be at least 70 percent of the number of mares. Usually there are 3 or 4 people watching the herd, but the senior herd keeper himself determines the number of assistants.
The Alakol-Agro enterprise specializes in breeding 4 breeds of horses. In terms of income structure, the most profitable areas are breeding sales and MEAT. In addition, some mares are milked to produce kumis, which is supplied free of charge to schools.
