Hare: export of beef cattle reaches $1.2 million in recent years

December 21, MINSK. In recent years, EXPORT sales of specialized MEAT breeds of cattle amounted to $1.2 million, Deputy Prime Minister Leonid Zayats said at a joint meeting of the two chambers of the Belarusian parliament, BelTA has learned.

“Cattle production is currently based mainly on the fattening contingent of dairy cattle and is less attractive for investment compared to other livestock sectors due to low efficiency. At the same time, the beef market in the long term is practically unlimited compared to other livestock products. Agricultural organizations carry out the cultivation and fattening of young cattle on commercial farms.Only 10% of the livestock is kept on complexes for growing and fattening cattle, the efficiency of beef production on which is much higher,than in commodity farms," ​​said Leonid Zayats.

A further increase in beef production will follow the path of modernizing production facilities and open-type sites with funding under the state program, as well as through the development of beef cattle breeding, through further work on its purebred breeding.

“Currently, five breeding and genetic centers of the country are engaged in breeding such cattle. The goal is to obtain high-value animals for their further distribution to business entities,” the Vice Prime Minister noted. “In addition, the beef cattle breeding industry is export-oriented, which is confirmed by the interest of the EAU countries in purchase of pedigree young animals of specialized meat breeds. In recent years, export sales of specialized meat breeds of cattle amounted to $1.2 million."
