This year, products containing the ASF virus from Voronezh pork that were not subjected to heat treatment were withdrawn from circulation in seven regions of RUSSIA. In addition to two AGROECO livestock complexes in the Kalacheevsky district, outbreaks arose in five more places - including in forest belts in the vicinity of villages, at the Bobrovsky MEAT processing plant and on the farm of Kalacheevskoye Specialized Farm LLC from the Rusmit group of companies.
The ASF quarantine in the Kalacheevsky and Bobrovsky districts of the Voronezh region was canceled by the decree of Governor Andrei Vorobyov, published on December 22. When eliminating ASF outbreaks, 120 thousand pigs had to be destroyed. 85 thousand laboratory tests were carried out. The epizootic investigation is ongoing.
According to a preliminary version, the spread of the virus at the Melovatsky and Kolos pig-breeding complexes was associated with the movement of commercial livestock to an infected facility - a meat processing plant , where products with the pathogen were already located. In addition, unreliable registration of farm animals on private farms played a role - this was revealed during door-to-door surveys.
The lack of proper veterinary control over the slaughter of livestock led to the sale of beef with anthrax bacillus at the agricultural market in Voronezh and an emergency situation due to a particularly dangerous zoonosis. The anthrax quarantine introduced in September in the Bogucharsky and Kantemirovsky districts was in effect until December 7.
